Have you ever wondered what the ticket for driving in the carpool lane is? Well, the State of Arizona is beefing up their enforcement of single drivers in the carpool lane. As of this month, Arizona State officials are making it clear for motorists what the penalty if they violate the restrictions on the use of the high-occupancy vehicle lane in the Phoenix-area freeways.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will be installing more than 250 signs on Phoenix freeways to help inform and remind drivers what the penalty for HOV lane cheaters. Those are from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorcycles and buses are also allowed to use HOV lanes during the restricted periods.
